Programme Social Safety in Higher Education and Science

Together, we strengthen social safety in higher education and science.

About the subsidy scheme

Do you have an idea to promote social safety at your university, University of Applied sciences or student organisation? Or a plan to create a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning and working environment in higher education and science? The subsidy scheme Social Safety can help you make it happen! The scheme also supports initiatives aimed at preventing undesirable behaviour, such as harassment and discrimination.

The subsidy is available for a wide range of projects ranging from short-term activities, like training sessions and workshops, to long-term projects focusing on cultural change. Together, we want to work towards a socially safe environment.

Everyone in higher education and science can apply

  • As a student, you can apply for a subsidy through a student organisation, such as a student or study association, provided that it has been receiving financial support from an educational institution or the minister for at least three years.

  • PhD candidates and postdocs can apply for the subsidy as well. This can be done by organizations that are an official association or foundation, and that receive financial support from a higher education institution or the minister for at least the past three years. If this does not apply to you, you can reach out to your local graduate school or institution to request to apply for funding together. You can also reach out to Promovendi Netwerk Nederland (PNN) or PostdocNL to seek assistance.

  • As an employee of a higher education institution, you can apply for a subsidy via your institution or through an employees’ organisation, such as FNV/AOb or LNVH (The Dutch Network of Women Professors). These organisations must have been financially supported by an educational institution or the minister for at least three years.

  • Universities or Universities of Applied sciences as defined by the Higher Education and Scientific Research Act (WHW).
